Heterotopic Bone Formation in Abdominal Scars, Clinical Analysis of Cases by Literatures and Report of Two Cases in Korea






Abstract
While bone formation in various organs is a well-known pathological phenomenon, heterotopic bone formation or myositis ossificans traumatica is uncommon sequelae of abdominal surgical incision. Until July 1975, only a. total of 58 cases have been reported in the world literatures, but the incidence must be, higher than this. This condition may lead to discomfort and alarm, confusion and mistaken diagnosis it may mimic a retained foreign body or recurrence of a malignant condition.
There was no report of heterotopic bone formation in abdominal scars in Korean literatures until 1975. Authors presents; two instances of heterotopic bone formation in abdominal scar in Korea that was confused the recurrence of malignancy and incidentally founds and adds clinical analysis of, 60 instances to the revealed worldwide literatures of this topic.
